The Weekly Reader Express (located at the Web address: www.weeklyreaderexpress.com) collects information only from teachers and parents, not from children. When teachers and parents register, we add their e-mail and postal addresses to our electronic mailing list so that, from time to time, we can send them information about new features, additions, and changes to our products and/or Web site. We also use information collected from registered members at the point of registration to mark them as unique users of Weekly Reader Express in order to preserve the security and integrity of the network. If users do not want to receive any e-mail alerts or printed promotional materials via U.S. Mail, they may indicate this during registration.

We do not collect information from students.

The Weekly Reader Express may occasionally make subscriber information available to other units within WRC Media, Inc., and may occasionally share subscriber information with companies inside the corporate family or partners of WRC Media, Inc. units. If users prefer that their subscriber information not be made available to other units of WRC Media, Inc., or partners WRC Media, Inc., they may indicate this during registration.

CHILDREN'S ONLINE PRIVACY PROTECTION ACT (COPPA)

The Weekly Reader Express does not collect information from children.

The Weekly Reader Express does not collect information from teachers relating to children.

INFORMATION COLLECTED FROM TEACHERS AND PARENTS

When teachers register on this Web site, we add their e-mail address and other contact information to our electronic mailing list so that, from time to time, we can send them information about new features, additions, and changes to our products and/or Web site. (Note: Teachers and parents may choose not to participate in our electronic mailing list when they register.) We also use the information collected from teachers to mark them as unique users within The Weekly Reader Express to preserve the security and integrity of the network. We collect the following information from teachers at the point of registration:

  • User ID (a combination of letters and/or numbers used in combination with "Password" to allow access to WR Express)
  • Password (a combination of letters and/or number used in combination with "User ID" to allow access to WR Express)
  • First Name and Last Name (used to identify teachers as unique users within WR Express)
  • School (used to identify print-subscribing schools using WR Express)
  • Grade (used to identify and measure use by various grade levels and to adapt content; parents should enter their child's grade)
  • School Address (used to identify print-subscribing school districts using WR Express)
  • E-mail Address (used to confirm registration; also used to communicate information about new features, additions, and changes to WR Express. Parents and teachers may elect not to have this information sent to them)
  • Identity Question/Answer (subscriber may enter any question and answer to help them in case their password is forgotten)

REVIEW AND REMOVAL OF PARENT AND TEACHER PERSONAL INFORMATION

You may review or modify your information within the Weekly Reader Express by clicking on the My Account link on the side of each page. If you wish to delete all of your information from the Weekly Reader database, you may do so by e-mailing us a written request either by mail or e-mail to: wrarchives@weeklyreader.com

Parents and teachers also have the right to refuse to permit the further collection of information. In order to do so, parents and teachers should submit a written request to any of the addresses above. Parents and teachers should also include their contact information for verification of their requests.

USE OF COOKIES

The Weekly Reader Express uses "cookie" technology. Cookies are small text files sent by our Web server to your Web browser. Cookie technology tells us non-personally identifiable information, such as what browser you use (i.e.: Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer), what operating system your computer runs on (Macintosh or Windows), what type of Internet Service Provider you have (AOL, .com, .edu., or .org,), how often you visit our Web site, how many searches you execute and what Weekly Reader Express features you most frequently visit. We track this information for individual users and in the aggregate. We use the information to identify which technologies our visitors use, which areas of the Weekly Reader Web site are most successful, and which areas we need to improve.

IP ADDRESSES

Every computer or network on the Internet has a unique, identifying number known as an IP address. The Weekly Reader Express collects IP addresses. We do this so that we can gather aggregate information about how the Web site is being used. This information is used to report site statistics to WRC Media Inc. (our parent company), in-house to Weekly Reader Corporation, to our partners, and to our sponsors

When Weekly Reader Express users access a page from our site (www.weeklyreaderexpress.com), our host server logs (collects) the visitor's IP address. As a rule, we do not link the IP address to any personally identifiable information unless we establish the need to protect our site, its visitors, or others.

The Weekly Reader Express may feature links to other Web sites to enhance the information provided. In addition to these links, links to our partners and sites with cooperative relationships may also be available from within the Web site. While we have endeavored to provide links to sites providing the highest level of educational material available on the Web, Weekly Reader cannot make any guarantees with respect to the actions or policies of those sites to which we provide links.

The security of your personally and non-personally identifiable information is very important to Weekly Reader Corporation. Although we make every effort to secure the transmission of any information you send from your computer to our ISP's server or Weekly Reader's e-mail server, we cannot guarantee the absolute safety of this information. (Transmission of any information over the Internet cannot be guaranteed to be secure.) Any information you send to us is sent at your own risk.

Weekly Reader Corporation does not release or sell any personally identifiable information about Weekly Reader Express visitors to any third party for any purpose whatsoever unless otherwise stated at the time of collection.
